Amazon Prime Video: 4k streaming - how it works
With Amazon Prime Video, you can enjoy series streams in UHD, i.e. 4k Ultra HD with a resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. You can find out here which devices you need to receive the 4k content and which series Amazon Prime Video offers in this resolution.
Movies and series from Amazon Prime Video in 4k
Amazon streams a good 50 titles in UHD or 4k. Your devices have to bring a lot with them for these high-resolution videos:
- You need a 4k-capable television or a combination of a 4k-capable graphics card and monitor. UHD-compatible televisions have been available from LG, Samsung, Sony and VIZIO since 2014. We present various UHD televisions in a picture gallery and offer a price and performance comparison for televisions under 55 inches and one for 56 inches and more.
- The entire chain from the receiver to the image and sound output devices must always have an HDMI connection that supports HDCP 2.2.
- The XBox One S is also suitable as a UHD receiver for Amazon Prime Videos.
- In order to receive the streams in full 4k quality, you also need at least an Internet connection with 15 Mbit / s. Netflix and YouTube even recommend 20 Mbps or more.
- Amazon itself proposes the second-generation Amazon Fire TV for 4k streaming. The cheaper Fire TV stick is suitable for HD videos with 1080p, but not for UHD.
- You may have to restart the stream several times on Amazon so that it runs in 4k quality. This applies particularly to 15 Mbit / s connections.
- All titles are listed in the Ultra HD category, which you can find on the Prime Video homepage.
- These are primarily original versions of some series, such as "Alpha House", "Bosch", "Hand of God", "Mozart in the Jungle", "Red Oaks" and "Transparent". With greater demand, the content will certainly grow.
- In German you will find Sony Pictures classics such as "Godzilla", "And every day the groundhog", "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "The Da Vinci Code - sacrilege".
