Overclock the AMD CPU with AMD OverDrive - how it works
You can overclock the processor to get more performance from your AMD CPU. Only a few steps are necessary for this. This practical tip shows you how to do this.
AMD: Overclock CPU with OverDrive - you have to do that
Below we show you how you can overclock your AMD CPU using the OverDrive tool:
- First download and install the free AMD OverDrive tool.
- Open the program after you have successfully installed it on your PC.
- Then switch to the tab "Performance Control" and there "Clock / Voltage".
- There you can see the current performance of your CPU. To overclock the processor, first check "Select all cores". Then move the "CPU Core 0 Multiplier" slider to the right.
- In the upper field "CPU Core 0 Speed" you can see the new speed of the CPU under "Current Speed".
- If there are crashes, change the slider "CPU VID" under "Voltage (V)". This regulates the voltage supply for the processor.
- It is important that you have an overview of the temperature of the processor under "Status Monitor"> "CPU Status". A temperature below 60 degrees is ideal.
- Tip: With the free tool "Cinebench" you can check your CPU for stability.
- Before you apply the changes, you should run several tests in OverDrive under "Performance Control"> "Stability Test" to ensure that your CPU can also carry out the changes.
This practical tip is based on AMD OverDrive 4.3.1 under Windows 7. We will tell you in our next practical tip whether you can also overclock a hard drive.
