Android 7 Nougat: activate night mode - how it works

Before the release of Android 7.0 Nougat, Google promised an eye-friendly night mode as a new feature. But now it is clear: Officially, the function has not made it into the new Android version. With a trick you can still activate the (hidden) night mode.
Android 7.0: Switch on and use night mode
In night mode, the display appears reddish by artificially reducing shades of blue. The warm coloring is extremely easy on the eyes in a dark environment. Why Google deactivated the originally planned function shortly before the release is currently unknown. You can activate the feature in the following way, but errors are not excluded.
- To activate night mode, first pull the status bar down twice. The notification window opens.
- Press and hold the gear icon at the top for a few seconds until it starts rotating around its own axis.
- You will then receive a message that the "System UI Tuner" has been added to the settings.
- Pull down the status bar again twice and tap on "Edit" in the lower right corner.
- Under the lettering "Drag to add tiles" you will find the pipette symbol of the night mode.
- Hold down the icon and drag it up into the quick settings.
- You can then activate night mode with a tap on the pipette.
Android Nougat: Set up night mode perfectly
If you don't like the color cast or if the display is too dark in night mode, you can personalize the feature.
- To do this, press and hold the eyedropper tile in the notification window until the Settings app opens.
- You can then start the night mode automatically using the "Activate automatically" entry. To do this, you set a desired time at which the feature should be activated.
- Switch off the "Adjust color tone" entry below if you do not want the red cast in night mode.
- However, if you deactivate the "Adjust brightness" option, night mode will no longer automatically adjust your display brightness.
