This practical tip shows you how to clear the app cache on your Android device. Apps that cache a lot of data can be reset and partially accelerated. Make sure that the data has to be reloaded after the reset and that this takes time and data volume for the YouTube app, for example.
Clear app cache on Android
You can empty the cache for each app individually in the settings under Android. We explain exactly what the cache is and why you should delete it in a separate article. You can do this in different ways:
- Hold the desired app icon for a few seconds on the start screen or on the overview of all apps, the so-called app drawer, until a small menu appears. Select the small "i" character or the name "App Details".
- Alternative way: Navigate in the Settings app to the "Apps" area. The sub-item can vary depending on the surface and Android version. Select the app whose cache you want to clear by tapping on it.
- Decide on the button "Force stop" (possibly also "Force stop"). This option prevents the background processes of an app from running and thus the cache fills up again immediately after deletion.
- Finally, tap on "Storage" and on "Clear cache".
