It makes sense to move your Android apps to the SD card when your phone storage is getting full and you have to use the external storage. We show you how to move the apps and thus free up memory.
Move Android apps from phone to SD card
Note: Every Android smartphone is different. For this reason, the instructions are general and may vary slightly on your device.
- Open the settings on your smartphone and select the Apps area.
- Now select an app and tap on Storage to display the current location of the app.
- Here you should find an option that allows you to change the location. Do this.
- If you select the new location, the app will be transferred automatically. Even large apps are moved in a few seconds.
- If you can't find an option, try another app. Some apps cannot be moved for security reasons.
- It can also happen that the apps are transferred back to the internal memory after an update. In this case, just move the app again.
Move Android apps to SD card using an app
If you want to move several apps to the SD card at once, you can download the Android app AppMgr III (App 2 SD), which will make this process easier for you. However, please note that you need to root your device for this app. We'll show you how in the video below.
- After installing this app, open it to see all movable apps.
- It is important to know that you cannot move some apps. The app also divides them into corresponding categories.
- Once you have selected all the apps that you want to move to the SD card, confirm with OK and the app will complete the process for you.

Android apps cannot be moved - what to do?
The option to change the location is not always displayed. This can have several reasons.
- Some apps simply cannot be moved. This usually includes pre-installed apps and system-relevant apps.
- In some cases, it can also happen that an app is not completely moved. This is usually because parts of the app can or may only run on the internal storage.
