Use Android apps in the Chrome browser
If you also want to use your Android apps in the Chrome browser, this now works almost without restrictions. We'll show you what options you have.
Use Android apps in the Chrome browser
Google itself has developed a tool called "Android Runtime for Chrome (ARC)", which, however, only supports a few apps and only runs on the Chrome OS. Now the tool has been adapted by a user so that it also runs under Windows and almost all apps can be used:
- Download the ARChon emulator, which is around 100 megabytes in size, from the developer's website.
- Click on the menu button at the top right and select the "Extensions" under the "Other tools" category.
- Activate the "Developer mode" in the top right corner and click the "Load unpacked extensions" button.
- The download of ARChon should now be finished. Open and unzip / extract the ZIP file.
- Then switch back to Chrome and select the extracted folder.
- The emulator is then installed in Chrome. The error messages that appear are normal and can be ignored.
Install apps in ARChon
- You can install apps in the same way as the emulator. Download the app, unzip the file and install it via Chrome in developer mode. In the overview of the extensions you will now find the "Start" option below the app.
- Officially, not all apps are running in the emulator, and some applications are also buggy. A list of the currently supported apps and the download links can be found in this Google Drive document.
- If you cannot find the app you want to download or are looking for a paid app, you have to take a small detour. Download the app to your Android smartphone and install the Chrome APK Manager there. You can use the "Generate Chrome APK" function to unzip the Android app and transfer it to your computer.
