Protect Android apps with a password - how it works
If a simple PIN protection is too unsafe or if you want to protect individual Android apps with a password, there are many different applications in the Google Play Store. In this practical tip, we show you two free and extensively equipped download recommendations.
AppLock: Protect Android apps with a password or pattern
Via the free Android App AppLock you can set a password or a pattern that you have to enter when opening certain apps.
- In addition to individual applications, the protection can also be extended to the system settings, the installation of new apps from the Google PlayStore and to incoming calls. In the main menu of AppLock, activate and deactivate the password lock for individual applications and functions using a slider.
- The additional functions of AppLock include a photo and video safe, an automatic lock at a specified time and various protection profiles. If you don't mind full-screen advertising, you can use these features for free. Ads can be removed by in-app purchase for 69 cents per month.
- For even more security you will find the menu item "Extended protection" in the settings. Activate the checkbox to block the uninstallation of AppLock. This means that unauthorized persons cannot remove the application without first opening it and having to enter the password you specified.
Smart App Protector: password protection for Android apps
Alternatively, Android apps can be password-protected with the Smart App Protector.
- Under the menu item "Settings" you define a password. You have the choice between a PIN encoder or a combination of numbers and letters. Alternatively, set a pattern or gesture that you want to use to unlock apps.
- With the "Smart App Protector" you can lock your device remotely via SMS. To do this, you will find a remote lock password in the menu, which you can send to your cell phone by text message in the event of loss or theft.
- If desired, the app issues a fake error message when opening certain applications. This leads an unauthorized user to believe that the application has crashed. The option can be activated for each individual app using the circle symbol on the right.
