If the data exchange via Bluetooth no longer works on your Android smartphone, there can of course be many reasons. You can easily fix a few errors that occur every now and then. In this practical tip we show you what you should try.
Bluetooth no longer works: is it because of the settings?
First the question: Is Bluetooth activated on the cell phone at all?
- Maybe you accidentally turned it off at some point and didn't even notice. Therefore, check under Settings "Wireless and networks" whether Bluetooth is active.
- Turning Bluetooth off and on could also solve the problem. Also check this on the other device you want to connect to. Switching it off and on can also be helpful here.
- Also bring both devices closer together as distance could be a problem.
Connect new and older devices
The failed connection may be due to the Bluetooth version.
- Because Bluetooth is backwards compatible, however, not all older Bluetooth versions can connect to the new ones. Up to Bluetooth 3, for example, there was no smart or Bluetooth low energy, which may not allow the connection.
- You have to check this and purchase a corresponding device that also supports the newer versions of Bluetooth.
Visibility timeout active?
A function that is supposed to provide more security when using Bluetooth on Android is also often the cause of the problem. If your cell phone is set so that you are not visible to other Bluetooth devices, they cannot send you any data - regardless of whether your Bluetooth is working or not.
- Therefore go to "Settings"> "Bluetooth". Your device name should be at the top and directly below whether you are visible to others or not. If not, tap the name once.
- To determine the timeout for visibility, press the menu button and select the appropriate item. Here you can usually choose between a few times and a complete switch-off of the timeout.
- By default, Android smartphones are always visible when the Bluetooth menu is open.
Uncouple and reconnect
If connecting the two devices still does not work, you can unpair them.
- To do this, go to the Bluetooth menu on your smartphone and press the gear next to the name of the other device.
- Then press "Unpair". Thus you delete it from the list of already known connections.
- Now the name of the other should appear under the "Available devices". You can then try connecting again with one click.
Reset Bluetooth sharing on Android
Another possible problem solution is a reset of the "Bluetooth release", ie practically the system app that is responsible for Bluetooth.
- To do this, go to "Settings"> "Apps" and switch to "All". Find and tap on the "Bluetooth Sharing" list.
- You will now see the "Clear cache" button in the app info. Press it and then restart the phone.
Restarting Android helps against many problems
The sayings "Reboot is good" or "A restart is never wrong" are something like old wisdom among Android users. Small errors that are present in the system can often not be identified. But you can remove them quickly and easily. Therefore, if the Bluetooth problem occurs, try to restart the Android device first and then check whether the data transfer is working again.
Consult support and possibly take repairs
If your Bluetooth connection is still not working, you should contact your manufacturer's support. They may be able to give you further solutions for your device and give you further advice. In the rare case of a hardware defect, you cannot avoid sending your device in for repair. Support will also be able to provide you with all the necessary information for this.
