By moving files, you can create new space on your Android smartphone. How this works and how you can also change the storage location of photos is shown in this practical tip.
How to move files on Android
You need a file manager to move files on Android. Such an app may already be pre-installed on your device and can be found under the name "My Documents" or "File Manager", for example. If not, you must first install a file manager such as "ES File Explorer" or "Astro File Manager". Then proceed as follows:
- Open the file manager.
- Navigate to the files or folder you want to move and touch it with your finger for a few seconds.
- This step varies depending on the file manager used: In some cases, a context menu opens. If this is the case, select the "Move" item. Otherwise you will find the move function in the menu bar (sometimes you have to expand it beforehand). To do this, look for an icon with three dots and touch it.
- Then enter the target directory, which can be located on an inserted SD memory card, for example.

Change the location in Android
The location of files must be set individually in the respective apps. For example, you can configure most camera apps so that photos and videos are stored directly on the external SD card, if one is available.
For example, you can save all WhatsApp data on the SD card.
