Android: Change DPI - how it works with and without root
If you want to change the DPI number on your Android display, only a few simple steps are necessary. In this practical tip, we will show you how it works with and without root.
Android: Change DPI without root
- First activate USB debugging. You can find this setting in the "Developer Options".
- Then download Minimal, ADB and Fastboot and install the tools.
- Connect your smartphone to the PC via USB and start "Minimal ADB / Fastboot".
- Enter the command "adb shell wm density DPI-NUMBER && adb reboot" and replace "DPI-NUMBER" with the desired number.
- Press [Enter] to execute the command. Confirm this change by pressing "OK" on your smartphone.
- To undo this change, simply enter "adb shell wm size reset && adb reboot" in "Minimal ADB / Fastboot".
Android: Change DPI with root
- Use the Explorer on your phone to find the "build.prop" file.
- The entry "ro.sf.lcd_density = 640" defines the DPI resolution on your smartphone.
- Adjust the number at the end to change the resolution of your smartphone.
- Save the changes so that they take effect.
