Android: Rename your own WiFi hotspot
If you have opened a WiFi hotspot with your Android smartphone, you can also rename it and thus give it a unique name. In this practical tip we will show you how this works.
Open and rename WiFi hotspot on Android
- Open the menu with your smartphone and go to "Settings".
- Scroll to "Wireless & networks" and click on "More ...".
- Click here on the "Tethering & portable hotspot" option. Then select "Set up WiFi hotspot".
- Under "Network SSID" you can now rename the access point using the input field.
- After you click "Save", other people will find your WiFi hotspot under the new name.
It was tested with a Nexus 5 and Android 4.4.2. If the signal from your router is not sufficient, you can also use your cell phone as a WiFi repeater.
