Recover deleted contacts on Android
It is annoying if you accidentally delete a private or business contact on your Android smartphone. However, there is an easy way to save contacts that have already been removed. However, in order to restore deleted contacts, you have to fulfill one prerequisite: you must have previously synchronized your contacts with Google or Gmail.
- With Gmail you can reset your contact list to any status in the last 30 days and thus restore deleted contacts.
- If you haven't previously synced your contact list with Gmail, it's rarely possible to save contacts with third-party software.
- The only helpful alternative is to use a backup. If you have recently created an Android backup, you can upload it and thus get back to the deleted contact.
Instructions: Restore Android contacts with Gmail
- First, open the Gmail Contacts page. It works both on the cell phone and on the PC.
- If you log in here with your Google account, you will have access to all contacts.
- Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select the "Undo Changes" option.
- Select the desired period of the backup here. There are various time periods to choose from, you can also set this to a specific day if required. The maximum period is 30 days.
- If you then click the "Confirm" button, all contacts will be restored. Unfortunately, the change cannot be made for individual contacts only.
- The deleted contact should now reappear on your Android smartphone. If this is not the case, wait a few more minutes or restart the device.
To be able to restore deleted contacts at all, you must have synchronized your contact list with your Google account. You cannot use this to retrospectively repeat your contacts, but you are prepared for the future. In the next practical tip, we will show you how to synchronize your Android contacts with Google.
