Android: Recover deleted SMS
With special apps you can restore a deleted SMS on your Android smartphone. You can read how this works in this practical tip.
Only rarely possible without special apps
Some manufacturers, for example HTC, install an app for saving and restoring SMS on their smartphones. However, not every manufacturer does this, and the individual apps are not always compatible with each other. You should therefore always back up your SMS with an external app. This way you can also transfer your old SMS to a new cell phone and are not dependent on the manufacturer.
Restore SMS with "SMS Backup & Restore"
You can backup and restore SMS with the free app "SMS Backup & Restore". To do this, proceed as follows:
- To create a backup of your SMS, open the app and click "Save". The app now creates a backup and saves it by default in the "SMSBackup" folder on your SD card.
- To create automatic backups, go to the Options menu and click on "Schedule backup". Here you can set the time and frequency of the backups.
- If you want to restore a backup, click on "Restore" in the main menu of the app. The app shows you all backups from the "SMSBackup" folder on your SD card. Select what you want and click "OK". The SMS from this time are now restored.
