Use Google Maps offline on Android
Use Google Maps Maps offline:
In this guide we use the current version 9 of Google Maps. The function is titled differently under older versions.
- Open Google Maps and select the map section you want to use offline later.
- Now tap the search bar at the top. There, scroll down and tap on the entry "Save map for offline use". Note: In order to be able to use this function, you must be logged into your Google account within Maps.
- Now the application downloads the selected map area. This is then available to you offline.
- Tip: If you select a map area that is too large to download, the entry "Provide map area offline" does not appear in the search window. Therefore, zoom in closer so that you can download the map.
Google My Maps: Edit maps with Google Drive
You can also access your own maps with the Google Drive app for Android. So you don't have to waste a lot of data on the Google Maps app.
- Open the Google Drive website and log into your account if necessary.
- Click the "New" button on the left and select the "Google My Maps" function under "More".
- Here you can edit your desired routes and maps as you wish. Among other things, lines can be drawn and layers added.
- You can then share the map with friends or just let it rest on Google Drive.
