Android: Google Play Store error 498 - what to do?
If you want to install an Android app from the Google Play Store, error 498 sometimes appears. Here you can find out how you can install your apps despite the error message.
Error 498: Out of memory
If you get error message 498, the app you are installing is probably too large for your device. Here either the main memory or the internal memory is no longer sufficient, which means that installation is not possible, at least temporarily.
Despite the error message - install apps from the Google Play Store
With a few tips, you can free up the memory on your Android smartphone. Note that the large amount of free space is often only necessary for the installation. To do this, your smartphone must save the downloaded setup file and the installed app at the same time. After the installation, you usually have more storage space available.
- Uninstall old and unused applications. To do this, take a look at your installed programs and uninstall what you no longer need. It is best to uninstall several apps at once.
- Also restart the device. Some apps keep leaving data in memory. You can easily remove the remnants by restarting.
- Move data to an external memory card. Many smartphones can even copy apps to an SD card. The internal memory is always important for an installation, but you can fill the external memory as required.
- Quit all apps that are running in the background. Even after a restart, some applications nest directly in the working memory. You can view them in the "Active" list in the Task Manager and stop them by clicking "Finish". Alternatively, read another practical tip on how to completely empty the working memory in Android.
- If that's still not enough, you can also delete the data of your apps. However, deposited information such as accounts and images are usually lost. Click on an application in the app overview and select "Clear data" (all data) or "Clear cache". You can delete the latter without hesitation.
- Now try to install the desired app again. If there is enough space, the Play Store will automatically start downloading.
