Android Kill Switch: This is how the security feature works
Android 5.0 (L) introduces a kill switch function. We explain how the security feature will work.
Make the Android device unusable for thieves with Kill Switch
With the kill switch in Android 5.0, you can remotely lock your Android devices, permanently delete data and even make them completely unusable. This means that unauthorized persons cannot access your saved data if they lose their Android device.
- The highlight and difference to the previous Android device manager is that a restore of the smartphone is not enough. Instead, an Android device that was blocked by the kill switch can now only be reactivated if the original user gives his consent.
- In practice, this means that you have to log in to the device locked with Kill Switch after a restore using the Google account that was used when the device was first activated.
- Theft of a smartphone is therefore unattractive for thieves, since you cannot do anything with the smartphone without the right Google account after a lock.
- The block will probably continue to be made via the well-known Android device manager, which you can simply call up using your Google account in any web browser.
