Android: Add contact pictures
If you add contact pictures on Android, these appear for example in calls or text messages. In this tip you can read how to add a picture to a phone book contact.
Add contact pictures on Android 4.x.
To add an image to a contact, do the following:
- Open the Contacts app.
- Select the contact you want to give a picture to.
- Click on "Edit" in the context menu. At HTC Sense you will even find a direct link at the end of the contact.
- At the top right you can see the current contact picture or a placeholder if none is available. Tap the picture.
- Now you can choose from which source you want the image. You can also take a photo directly. With some manufacturer interfaces, for example with HTC Sense, you can also select the contact's Facebook photo if you have linked the contact.
Maintain contact pictures in Android 5.x and 6.x.
The procedure has been changed slightly under Android 5.x and 6.x.
- Go into your contacts and select the contact who should receive a picture.
- Tap the pencil icon in the top right to edit the contact.
- There is a large plus symbol to the left of the contact name.
- After you have tapped it, a pop-up menu appears with the options "Images", "Take a photo" or "Tagged images".
- For example, decide on "pictures" and select a suitable photo from the gallery.
- You can then set a round image section.
- With "Save" you define the new contact picture.
Manage images via Google contacts
If the route causes problems via the Android menu, you can also add the images via the Google contact management:
- Visit www.googlemail.com and select the "Contacts" tab in the drop-down menu under "GMail" (see screenshot).
- Then click on the contact you want to give a picture to.
- Click on the picture placeholder and select the picture you want to assign to the contact.
