Android L: More security with Knox?
Android L promises more protection for your data thanks to the new security concept Samsung KNOX. Google also wants to act more in the business sector. We explain what is behind the security measures.
Security software KNOX - what does it bring to Android L?
The main reason for the introduction of KNOX in Android L is the desire for a strict separation of private and business data.
- The KNOX workspace finds its way into Android L. It is a data container in which business apps and data are stored. This container runs independently of the private data containers on the respective device.
- This concept clearly separates private and business data from each other and enables new management mechanisms, especially for company-specific structures. For example, a remote administrator can provide software or assign rights without coming into contact with the employee's private data.
- Knox may only be used on devices that have been proven not to be modified (e.g. rooted). If a modification is found, Knox refuses to serve. This can sometimes lead to a loss of warranty, but it also prevents other security risks such as installing certain malware on business cell phones.
By the way: Not all Samsung KNOX features will be available on Android L. The entire security concept remains reserved for Galaxy smartphones, and the ART runtime environment is also integrated into Android L.
