Android: deactivate volume buttons - does that work?
For some Android smartphones, it is useful to disable the volume buttons. This prevents accidental changes in volume. In this practical tip we will show you how.
Deactivate Android volume buttons - there are options
- If your Android smartphone is not rooted, you cannot deactivate the volume keys properly.
- However, there are some apps that can reverse unintended volume changes. These also work on smartphones without root.
- One example of this is the "Volume Locker" app. If you change the volume with this app using the buttons, a new message appears in your notification bar. You now have 20 seconds to tap the notification and save the volume setting. If you do not touch the message because, for example, you only accidentally pressed the buttons, the app will undo the change.
- However, if you have a rooted Android smartphone and are familiar with your mobile phone, you can use the "ButtonRemapper" app. This is not available in the AppStore, but only in the XDA forum. The download and all changes are at your own risk, CHIP assumes no liability for this.
- Be sure to make a nandroid backup before you start experimenting with the app. You can then assign the "None" function to the volume rockers. The buttons are now completely deactivated.
Tip: If your Android smartphone is too quiet for you, you can also increase the volume with certain apps.
