Install Android Lollipop - Here's how it works
Google has started the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but not all users can install the update immediately. We'll show you how to get the big update right away.
Install Android Lollipop - that's how Google plans it
- For the time being, the new firmware 5.0 is only available for Google's Nexus devices. Updates for smartphones and tablets from other manufacturers such as Samsung are expected in a few weeks.
- But even if you have a Nexus tablet or smartphone, you may not have received an update notification. For a manual update search, read the practical tip Check Android smartphone for updates.
- If there is no update available, you are still waiting in Google's update queue. Initially, only one percent of users receive the update, everything goes well, 25 percent receive the update. This is followed by 50 and ultimately 100 percent. The selection of users is always random and cannot be influenced. There are usually one to two weeks between the individual phases.
Install Android Lollipop immediately
In this guide, Android Lollipop is performed as a completely new installation. All data on your smartphone will be deleted. You can also download the update without reinstalling, but this variant is extremely susceptible to errors. In addition, a clean reinstallation can speed up your system.
- First, download the right Android Lollipop for your smartphone. Currently, these are only available for some Nexus devices. You can find the downloads on this Google website.
- Install the Universal ADB Driver tool and activate the USB debug mode on your smartphone. So you can control the smartphone via Windows.
- Start the command prompt (cmd.exe) and open the path of the Android 5.0 download. The path of the firmware to the Nexus 7 can be, for example, "C: \ Users \ XXX \ Downloads \ razor-lrx21p-factory-ba55c6ab.tgz".
- Use the "adb devices -l" command to check whether your smartphone / tablet can be reached. If you receive positive feedback, you can continue.
- Now enter the command "adb reboot bootloader" and then "flash-all.bat". After about 3 to 5 minutes, Android 5.0 is successfully installed on the device.
