Android M: Deactivate standby for apps - how it works
On Android M, you can extend the battery life of your smartphone by deactivating the standby function for apps. However, this feature is pretty much hidden. Therefore, we show you here where you can find the new Android function and how to use it.
Android M: Deactivate the standby function of apps
By default, Android M automatically sends apps to deep sleep and only reactivates them when the system recognizes that they are needed. You can deactivate this function for individual apps as follows:
- Open the "Settings" via the app overview.
- Select "Battery" and open the menu here.
- Now select "Ignore optimizations" and then select "All apps".
- You can "ignore optimization" for each installed app, so that the respective application is not put into deep sleep but remains permanently in the background. Note: This increases the battery consumption significantly depending on the app.
