Android: Manual network selection in the German mobile network
With an Android smartphone, it is straightforward to make a manual network selection in the German mobile network. This makes sense and is possible if you are close to the German state border - regardless of whether it is actually in Germany or abroad. It often happens that the cell phone dials into the foreign network near the border. This can cause significantly higher mobile phone costs. We will show you how to select the German network manually in this case.
Manual network selection on Android smartphones
- Go to the settings of your smartphone.
- At the top, select "More ..." under "Wireless & networks".
- Go to "Cellular networks" and then to "Cellular providers".
- The phone now searches for available networks. It may take a little while.
- You will then see a list of all available cellular networks. Domestic and foreign names should be visible near the border.
- Tap on the German network of your provider to register manually in it. The German networks are mostly recognizable by the appendix "de".
- If you only see foreign mobile networks in the list, you are already too far from the German border.
