Android: Deactivate Open MMS automatically
You should definitely deactivate the automatic downloading and opening of MMS on your Android smartphone, as otherwise the so-called stagefright hole can run malware on your mobile phone. This practical tip explains how to deactivate automatic opening.
Disable automatic download of MMS on Android smartphones
You can avoid the risk of a Stagefright attack going unnoticed by disabling the automatic download of MMS. With the Stagefright bug, attackers can spy on the camera and microphone and read out a lot of other data from your smartphone - and only with your cell phone number.
- Open your messaging app, for example Hangouts or "Messages" on Samsung smartphones.
- There you switch to "Settings".
- Look for items like "SMS", "MMS" or "Advanced Settings".
- Remove the check mark at "Automatic MMS download".
So far, for example, the distribution CyanogenMod is safe from the stagefright gap. In another practical tip, we will show you how to root your smartphone and install CyanogenMod.
