Android N: Set up emergency information - how it works
Under the new Android N, you can store emergency information, which is then displayed on the lock screen of your smartphone. In this practical tip, we reveal what that brings and how you save the information.
Saving emergency information under Android - that's what it does
As the name suggests, the emergency information should help you in the event of an accident. For example, relatives or doctors can find out your name, blood type or address on the lock screen of your cell phone. Stored emergency contacts are also particularly practical: a third party can call them after an accident or after losing their cell phone without having to unlock the device. The following information can currently be stored under Android:
- First and last name
- address
- birthday
- blood type
- Allergies and medications taken
- Organ donor: yes or no?
- Other emergency contacts
Android N: Set up emergency information and emergency contacts
- Open the Settings app on your smartphone with Android N. If you have an older version installed, update your device.
- Then scroll down a bit in the app and tap on the "User" entry.
- There you select the "Emergency information" option.
- Now enter the desired information in the respective fields. However, please note that the emergency information can be viewed by anyone who holds their smartphone in their hands.
Android N: Display emergency information on the lock screen
As soon as you have set up your emergency information under Android N, it can be accessed via the lockscreen:
- To do this, swipe your lock screen so that the PIN entry or the unlock code window appears.
- Tap on the "Emergency" lettering at the bottom of the screen.
- The keypad appears, which you can use to dial the emergency call. Tap the "Emergency information" button there.
- You will then see an overview of all the emergency information stored.
We will show you how you can test Android N before the official release in a special article.
