Android: Set up Russian keyboard
This practical tip shows you how to change the keyboard input language under Android and set the Cyrillic font for Russian text input.
Set Russian Android keyboard
Your Android smartphone has an abundance of different language packs. To access exotic keyboard language packs, you must download them in the settings.
- First open the "Settings".
- Scroll to "Language and input" and open it.
- Under the "Keyboards and input methods" tab you can see the installed Android keyboards. Tap the keyboard you are using. We use the "Samsung keyboard" for this practical tip, but the principle can be applied to all input apps.
- In the next window tap on "Add input languages".
- Now you can see the language packs already downloaded for your Android keyboard. Below is a list of other languages that you can download and install by tapping.
- To install the Russian language file, i.e. the Cyrillic letters, scroll almost to the bottom. Select "русский" and you will continue to write in Russian.
- To switch back to German, simply select "German" from the list. Alternatively, with the keyboard open, tap the note in the notification bar and click on the "German" entry.
In the next practical tip you will read how you can deactivate the personalized word suggestions on the Google keyboard.
