Android SMS memory full - what to do?
Modern Android smartphones usually offer a huge SMS memory. But at some point this is also full. We'll show you how to solve this problem on your phone.
Delete individual messages
Of course, you can delete the desired SMS individually as usual.
- Simply go to the SMS app and select a chat you want.
- Tap here on the message to be deleted - a pop-up menu appears. On some phones, you need to hold the message down for about three seconds to access this menu. Select the "Delete" item (the wording may vary depending on the device).
Delete entire SMS chats
If you want to remove the complete message history with one of your contacts, this is also possible without any problems.
- Open the SMS app again.
- Only this time do not tap on the desired chat, but keep it pressed. A menu appears again, in which you click on "Delete".
Automatic deletion
The most practical solution for a full memory is the automatic delete function. Here, your system only saves the latest messages per contact. You can determine how many that are.
- Open the SMS app again and this time the menu.
- Under the settings you will find a point, for example on HTC called "delete old messages". Check the box here.
- Now you have access to the field below. Here you can enter how many SMS per contact should be saved. Everything else is automatically deleted, the oldest messages first.
With the free Android app "SMS Backup & Restore" you can save your SMS messages reliably on the SD card.
