Android: change default shortcuts
With Android, you can link certain files to certain apps. We show you how you can change the standard links again.
Practical standard shortcuts on Android
When you open a file for the first time or perform a specific action, Android suggests that you create this file as the default link to the selected app.
- Set a default link by clicking "Always" when asked for "Take Action With".
- This will save you time in the future, since the file format is automatically started with the corresponding app the next time you select it.
Change default link - how it works:
However, if you want to change these standard shortcuts, it will unfortunately be necessary to delete all shortcuts with this app. Use these steps to change the default shortcut for a specific app:
- Open your Android settings and then "Apps" or "Applications". You will then receive an overview of your installed app.
- Find the app you want to change the default shortcuts from. If it doesn't appear in the list of downloaded apps, swipe to see "All".
- Select the corresponding app with a tap.
- Scroll down until you see the "Start by default" section. With a click on "Reset default settings" you remove the app link with all file formats.
- Now when you select one of the corresponding files, you will be asked which app you want to run it by default. Here you can select your new standard link.
By the way, you can also change your standard SMS app in Android. We have created a detailed explanation in the next practical tip.
