Android: Manage search engines in the Firefox browser
If you use Firefox on Android, you will get results from Google, Amazon, Twitter and Wikipedia by default. If you want to limit yourself to Google, for example, or want to add Yahoo to the search engines, for example, proceed as described in this tip.
Manage Firefox search engine on Android phone
On the smartphone Firefox you will find the configuration of the search engines in the add-on menu.
- To do this, open the settings of the Firefox app and then tap on "Tools" and "Add-ons".
- In addition to possible other extensions, this list shows the search engines that have been set up, the four of which are directly integrated.
- To switch off one of them, tap on it and in the following dialog on »Deactivate«. You can then select search engines again later and »Activate«.
- To insert additional search engines, tap the symbol to the right of "Your add-ons". Only in the following dialog enter the search term such as »Yahoo« or »Bing« in the field on the page and then tap on the green arrow. Find the right add-on in the hit list, such as "Yahoo Search for Firefox for Android".
- Then open the detail view and tap on "Add to Firefox". Confirm the request for the new search engine with »Add«.
Tip: A recommended alternative browser for Android is the "Dolphin" app.
