Android: WhatsApp as a lockscreen widget - does it work?
In the following practical tip, we explain how to add WhatsApp as a lockscreen widget on your Android smartphone.
WhatsApp messages on the lockscreen - how it works
Android users can view WhatsApp messages directly on their smartphone's lockscreen. All you have to do is select the corresponding option in the settings:
- Start WhatsApp.
- Open the settings by tapping on the three dots in the top right and then on "Settings".
- Select "Notifications" and then "Pop-up Notifications".
- Place the selection at "Always show pop-up".
- If desired, also set the same option in the Group Notifications area.
Add WhatsApp as a lockscreen widget
Alternatively, you can try to create a widget on the lockscreen. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Go to the lock screen and swipe left, but don't unlock the screen.
- Tap on the big plus symbol and scroll down in the selection to the WhatsApp lockscreen widget. Tap on it.
- From now on you have a WhatsApp shortcut on the lockscreen, through which you can quickly and easily view your WhatsApp messages.
- Alternatively, you can download the DashClock WhatsApp Extension for the DashClock widget app. However, your smartphone needs root rights for this.
