By installing WiFi certificates on your Android smartphone, you get access to certain networks. We'll show you how.
Android: How to install WiFi certificates
- For example, if you want to log into a university's WiFi network, you need the appropriate certificate to access it.
- These certificates are usually already installed on Android or are offered for installation directly when you register.
- If you have to install the WLAN certificate manually, you can download it from the operator's website. For installation you have to allow the "unknown sources" in the "Settings" app under the "Security" category.
Android: Install client and CA certificates for WiFi networks
- First download the certificate from the operator's website from the WiFi network.
- Connect your Android smartphone to your computer with a USB cable and move the certificate to the main directory.
- To do this, press the "Windows" and "E" keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens. If you select your smartphone here, you will be in the main directory with several folders.
- Now open the "Settings" app on your smartphone and select the "Login data storage" and the "Install from storage" option under the "Security" category.
- Tap on the desired certificate and enter the associated password. If the certificate is already installed, it will no longer be displayed.
- If desired, change the name of the certificate and select the "WLAN" option under "Use the login data". The certificate was then successfully installed.
