Android: pack and unzip ZIP files - does that work?
In the following practical tip, we explain how to pack and unzip ZIP files on your Android smartphone.
Unzip ZIP files using a file manager
A file manager is suitable for unpacking or bundling and sending ZIP files on the Android. Using the ES file explorer, we will show you how this works.
- If necessary, first download your ZIP file from the inbox or another source and then search for it in the download folder of the file manager.
- Tap on the ZIP file and select the integrated ZIP viewer from ES File Explorer in the list.
- Now mark the individual elements in the window with a long finger.
- Tap "Unzip" below.
- Alternatively, select a file path under which the images are to be saved and tap "OK".
- You can then view the images in the file manager or in the gallery.
- This also applies to all other file formats. You just have to make sure that you have installed an appropriate program to open the extracted file on the android.
- Almost every common file manager comes with this option. Alternatively, you can use Solid Explorer or Astro File Manager with Clouds, for example.
Create ZIP files in the ES File Explorer
Creating or compressing multiple files into one ZIP file is just as easy:
- Select the images or files to be summarized from the corresponding file path. Mark them with a long finger.
- Touch "More" in the bottom right corner.
- Select "Compress".
- Then name your ZIP folder and set the compression level.
- Alternatively, protect the ZIP file with a password.
Manage ZIP files with the alternative app
If you don't want to install a ZIP-compatible file manager on the android, you can also use alternative apps such as Easy Unrar, Unzip & Zip.
- To do this, select the corresponding ZIP file from the file directory and tap on "Open Archive" at the top.
- Then confirm the individual files contained and tap "OK".
- Do the same for packaging. Open the file path in which the individual files to be packed are located.
- Tap on "Compress" at the top and place a checkmark in front of the desired files in the checkbox.
- Confirm with the green tick at the top right. Your files will then be packaged and saved in the directory.
