Quotation marks above and below: Word for Windows and Mac
You need quotation marks below and above in Word for verbatim speech and quotes. In Word on Mac and Windows, you can easily create the quotes as we show you in this article.
Insert quotation marks at the top and bottom of Word: Windows Instructions
Word's settings for quotation marks at the top and bottom are easy to find. This allows you to efficiently incorporate quotations into your texts without having to worry about the characters. How to proceed in Windows:
- In Word, move the cursor to the position in the text where you want the quotation mark.
- Now press the "Shift" and "2" keys.
- Word now automatically quotes the German language if there is a space before. If you haven't left any space, a quotation mark will automatically appear at the top.
- If there are any difficulties, you can also type in the key combination "Alt" + "0132" or find the quotation marks below in the "Insert" area under "Symbols". These are sorted into the category "General punctuation".
- If you put the quotation marks above, even though there is a space in front of it, it may be because you accidentally switched Word to another language. At the bottom of the screen you can see which language Word is currently working in. If it does not say "German (Germany)" but, for example, "English (USA)", click on the language and change to German by looking for the corresponding entry in the language list.
