Disable animated GIFs in Google Plus
Animated GIFs in Google Plus can be deactivated. This practical tip shows you how this works in different browsers.
Stop animated GIFs in Firefox and IE
- In Firefox and Internet Explorer, a simple click on the "Esc" key is enough to stop the animations.
- The GIF images then freeze and can no longer be started. The animation only starts again when the website is reloaded.
- The stop function must be retrofitted in Google Chrome. You can read how to do this in the third section below.
- You can directly prohibit the start of animations in Firefox. We explain how this works in the following paragraphs.
Firefox: Prevent playback of GIF images
- Open Firefox and enter "about: config" in the address bar.
- There is a note that you will change the default values in Firefox. Click the button "I'll be careful, I promise!".
- You now have an overview of all basic settings in Firefox. Enter "animation" in the search line above.
- Select "image.animation_modes" as the search result and double click on the entry (see image).
- A small window opens in which the entry "normal" is set. Change this to "none".
- If you then click "OK", animations and GIF images will no longer be loaded, regardless of which website. You can undo the whole thing at any time by setting the value back to "normal".
