In our Apple Health app guide you can find out what data is recorded in the Apple Health app, which settings you can make and what else there is to know about this useful application.
Instructions: Apple Health App categories
Apple distinguishes 4 broad categories. In each of these categories, you can integrate different apps of your choice to collect the data that interests you. This way you can quickly and easily get an overview of your diet, your sleep pattern, your movement and other things.
- Activity: Here you can get data about your exercise and fitness. Read at a glance how many steps you have taken in a day, how much time you have spent sitting or how many calories you have lost.
- Sleep: A regulated biorhythm is important for a good night's sleep. Therefore, in this category you can see how long you sleep and when you went to bed.
- Mindfulness: In this category you will find health data on your breathing. You also get an overview of whether you have taken breaks throughout the day to avoid stress.
- Diet: Do you count calories, do you want to eat less fat or do you think you consume too much caffeine? Under "Nutrition" you will find the relevant information.
Apple Health App: Activate fitness log
If you are using iOS8 or newer and you do not see the Health App, you may have to update to the latest iOS version. You may just have to activate the fitness protocol so that you can use the Health app correctly:
- Open the settings on the iPhone.
- Select the "General" category and then tap on "Privacy".
- Slide the slider at "Fitness log" to the right to use the functions of the Health app.
Apple Health app guide: Find apps
Some functions automatically take over your iPhone and, if applicable, your Apple Watch. This includes counting your steps and measuring your heart rate. You can collect a lot of other data via apps and integrate it into your health app:
- Open the Health app and tap a category of your choice.
- You can now watch an overview video. Apps for the category are also suggested. Tap one of the apps to learn more and download it.
- If you already use certain apps, search for them in the search field on the home page of the Health app and add them.
More data for the Apple Health app
- If you want to enter something like your blood pressure manually, tap on "Data" and then on "Vital Signs". Then select a data type such as "blood pressure" and tap on the plus symbol. Then you can enter the values yourself instead of having them measured.
- You can import entries if you have previously used other apps. Log in to the app, select your health entry and search for "Export". This is usually a symbol like a rectangle with an arrow pointing out. Opt for "Add to Health". Then select "Health entries" under "Data" in the Health app and tap on the relevant application to display it.
- To motivate yourself to do more exercise or diet, you can view your daily progress. Simply tap on "Today" at the bottom of the Helath app to be able to view statistics on various dates.
- You can record your most important data in the "Overview". Tap "Data, " then a category and data type. If you select a statistic or overview here, you can activate "Show in overview" below. In the overview you can, for example, see at a glance how your muscle building, your diet or your heart rate are developing in the current month.
- If you have an Apple Watch, the data from the watch is automatically integrated into the Health App. The two devices simply need to be paired. You can integrate data about your heart rate, your movement and your breathing from the Smartwatch into the Health App on the iPhone.
To ensure that you do not lose any health data, you can read on the next page how you can extend the battery life of your Apple Watch.
