Call from Microsoft employees: PC locked - you can do that
If you call a Microsoft employee because your PC is about to be locked, you should pay attention. Because usually your PC is not locked at all and it is ice-cold fraud.
Microsoft call: PC is locked
- The trick is always the same: a supposed Microsoft support employee answers and says that your computer is infected with viruses and part of a botnet. Then he puts you under pressure and prompts you to install remote access software - otherwise your Windows license will be invalid.
- The scammers aim to take control of your computer. Using the remote access software, he can lock your computer and demand a ransom.
- It is also popular to let unsuspecting PC users open certain Windows programs, services and certificates. Using old certificates, the fraudsters try to explain to the user that their Windows has already expired and that they have to buy a new version of Windows from them.
- In all cases, it is brazen fraud. If someone claims to be a Microsoft support employee on the phone - hang up quickly! Microsoft itself says that they never (!) Call PC users themselves.
Police rarely catch Microsoft fraudsters
- The police rarely manage to get the callers. Because they change their phone numbers almost every hour, sit outside the EU and if a call center is closed with telephone fraudsters, two new ones open up somewhere.
- LKA Lower Saxony arrested several people in Kolkata who ran a large call center. Victims suffered several million damages because the entire account is cleared when paying ransom by credit card.
