An answering machine can be set up over most models of the Fritzbox. You can set up to four answering machines for different numbers on the Fritzbox.
Set up an answering machine in the Fritzbox
- Open the fritz.box user interface and log in with your password.
- Click on "Answering machine" in the menu on the left under "Telephony".
- If you click on the blue link "Set up answering machine" in the top right, you will be taken to the configuration.
- First select whether you only want to play an announcement or have the caller record a message (see picture). Then set whether the answering machine should start immediately or after how many seconds it should start working. Set a maximum recording length, enter a name for the answering machine and click "Next".
- In the next step you can select the phone numbers for which the answering machine should be activated. Select either all or only individual numbers and click "Next" again.
- If you then click "Apply", the answering machine is activated.
Speak the announcement for the answering machine
If you have set up an answering machine, it only has a standard announcement. To record an announcement yourself, follow these steps:
- Go back to the answering machine settings by clicking on the "Answering machine" sub-item in the menu under "Telephony".
- Select "Settings" on the right side.
- Here you will find the "Change announcement" button below.
- If you select the "Own announcement" item, you can click the "Select file" button and upload an audio file that will serve as your answering machine. Once you have selected a file, click on "OK".
- If you would like to record an announcement yourself, dial ** 600 over the phone. Press 4 to enter the announcement menu. Dial 1 for a greeting, 2 for a notice, 3 for a final, and then dial 8 to start recording.
