Anti-ghosting: what is it? Easily explained
Anti-ghosting is a term you've surely heard about gaming keyboards. We'll explain exactly what that is.
What is anti-ghosting?
To understand what anti-ghosting is, you have to know what ghosting means.
- Ghosting is a problem that many keyboards have: If you press several adjacent keys at the same time, key combinations no longer work properly. The reason for this is the way the keyboard is connected.
- However, especially in gaming, in the heat of the game, it happens quite often that the player accidentally presses several keys at the same time. The result is that some keys then react sluggishly or report that they have not been pressed - this is then a "ghost".
- That's why gaming keyboards have anti-ghosting. A different switching of the buttons should avoid the problem of ghosting.
- However, with most keyboards, anti-ghosting is limited to certain areas of the keyboard. Since the WASD block and the direction keys are used for control in gaming, only the areas are usually optimized for error-free function.
