Antialiasing in games - what is it?
Often one reads in graphics settings in games of antialiasing. We explain what this option does and how you can use it.
Antialiasing and the effects in games
Antialiasing means "anti-aliasing". The graphics card calculates a higher resolution image and calculates it against your actual resolution. This creates a smoother transition between objects and your environment. However, you must be aware that the graphics requirements increase with the setting of the anti-aliasing. So if you choose "2xAA", your graphics card has to do less than with "8xAA".
- If your game supports AA, you can activate it in the video options (see screenshot: Saints Row IV).
- First choose a lower setting and work your way up. As soon as your picture shows severe blurring or jerking during gameplay, reduce the setting again.
- Your picture should now look smoother and sharp-edged small objects such as blades of grass should appear smoother.
