Apex Legends lags and jerks: How to increase FPS and performance
If Apex Legends is stuck or jerky, this can have very different causes. We explain how you can identify the cause and which solutions are available.
Internet too slow: detect lags in Apex Legends
Lags and jerks in Apex Legends are not the same. Online games lie when something is wrong with the internet connection or the server. On the other hand, it jerks when there are problems locally on your PC. First, let's look at what to do if Apex Legends is down.
- You can recognize lags by different scenarios: either the opponents move strange or you run yourself and are suddenly reset (rubber band effect).
- If you are sure that you fire shots at the opponent but still miss him, this can also speak for lags in Apex that have to do with the internet connection or the servers.
- If it is lagging, you should first make sure that all downloads are issued. Check Steam and Origin, but also your smartphone, which could possibly update apps.
- Close all websites. YouTube videos and streams in particular slow down the download speed you need in Apex.
- If you use WiFi, the likelihood of lags is quite high. Test whether Apex works better with a LAN connection.
- If you have nothing but Apex open, you can find more tips on how to increase Internet speed here.
Apex jerky - you can do that
Stuttering in computer games express themselves differently than lag. They have nothing to do with the internet connection, but either with software incompatibilities or the hardware is defective or too slow.
- If Apex Legends is jerky, you can tell that mainly because you have very low FPS or the game crashes from time to time.
- Close all other programs so that only the game is open and test whether it works better now. Sometimes other software can hinder games.
- The problem may be caused by the graphics card driver. Right-click on the Windows symbol to open the Device Manager, expand the "Graphics cards" field and right-click on the entry.
- Select "Update Driver". If the drivers are already up to date, select "Properties> Drivers" and click on "Previous Driver". The game may not have been updated to the latest version, so you should use the old driver.
- Stutters sometimes occur when the graphics card and processor run too warm. By opening your PC and cleaning it immediately, you can sometimes remedy the situation.
- Has Apex never run smoothly with you? Read through the system requirements and compare them with your hardware. Some of your components may not be suitable.
