Apple Fusion Drive: what is it?
Apple Fusion Drive is a new type of storage and can be ordered with the Mac mini and iMac models (end of 2012). With this storage technology, an SSD is combined with a conventional HDD to form a logical drive. In our practical tip, we show you what Fusion Drive can do.
Apple Fusion Drive features
Apple's new storage system contains a number of useful functions. These are already preset when you buy a model with Fusion Drive:
- Fusion Drive moves rarely used files to your Mac's HDD. Frequently used files are saved in the flash memory. This way, the important programs start faster and you achieve a better work pace.
- The files are automatically moved in the background. You do not have to make any special settings. Frequently called programs are recognized and moved to the flash memory accordingly.
- Fusion Drive can be installed in your new Mac instead of the normal hard drive. To do this, select the appropriate configuration when ordering from the Apple Store. Fusion Drive costs between 200 and 350 euros, depending on the size.
