Reset Apple HomePod - Here's how
If your Apple HomePod no longer works properly, you can reset it to the factory settings. This works both via the device itself and via the app under iOS and MacOS.
Reset Apple HomePod on the device
If your HomePod does not react correctly, it is best to briefly disconnect it from the power supply and then plug it in again. That fixes most of the problems. If nothing helps, reset the speaker as follows:
- Disconnect the HomePod from the mains, wait five seconds and then reconnect it.
- Wait five seconds again and then touch the top of the HomePod with your finger for a few seconds.
- Keep your finger on the HomePod even if the white rotating light turns red.
- After a while, Siri will inform you that the HomePod has been reset successfully. As soon as three tones are emitted, you can take your finger off the speaker.
Reset Apple HomePod using the Home app
Alternatively, you can reset via the home app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Start the Home app on one of your Apple devices.
- In iOS, hold down the "HomePod" entry and tap "Settings". In MacOS, double-click on "HomePod" and then on "Settings" in the top right corner.
- Then scroll down a bit and select "Remove device". Your HomePod will then be reset.
