Apple ID: Request and enter the verification code
If you use two-factor authentication, you will receive a confirmation code for your Apple ID for each login on a different device. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly how this works.
Request and enter the verification code for the Apple ID
To receive a verification code, you must first activate two-factor authentication.
- If you log in to a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or browser with your Apple ID, confirmation will be requested on your trusted devices such as your iPhone.
- In most cases it is sufficient to take your iPhone in hand and to confirm the login. A code is not necessary here. To use the confirmation by code, you have to set it up beforehand. Read on in the next paragraph.
iPhone: Request Apple ID verification code
- Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad and select the "iCloud" category there.
- Tap on your user at the top and log in with your password.
- Go to the "Password & Security" category and activate two-factor authentication if necessary.
- Now tap on the "Get verification code" option below.
Apple ID: Receive confirmation code via SMS
- If you don't have a trusted device on hand, there is a third way to get the verification code. To do this, simply click on the "Don't get a verification code" option when you log in.
- Here you can now decide that the code will be sent to a trustworthy phone number. You will then receive the code by SMS to the number stored when you set up two-factor authentication.
