Apple iOS 12: the coolest innovations
Apple has added some new features in iOS 12. So that you can use the operating system optimally, we show the coolest innovations at a glance.
Cool innovations in iOS 12: Improved performance
- The performance improvement that iOS 12 brings is not immediately visible, but it is quite noticeable. Older devices such as the iPhone 5s in particular benefit from this.
- In previous iOS updates, there was often a drop in speed on the older devices. With iOS 12, on the other hand, the interface works much smoother and apps open faster.
Group messages in iOS 12
- The lock screen and the message center are much tidier after the iOS update.
- If several notifications from the same app appear, they are displayed as a group. By tapping on the group you will see the individual notifications.
Improvement of the "do not disturb" mode on iPhone and iPad
- The "do not disturb" function is already known from earlier iOS versions. It causes notifications to be delivered but does not activate the display or play sounds.
- Under iOS 12 you can now also set that the mode is deactivated after a certain time or when you leave the current location. For example, if you are sitting in the cinema, "Do Not Disturb" only remains active until you make your way home.
- The "Bedtime" option also prevents notifications from appearing on the lock screen. This allows you to check the time on your iPhone at night without reading any messages you have received.
Monitor screen time on iOS devices
- In the settings you will find the new option "Screen time" which hides various statistics on your personal usage behavior.
- Here you can see how much time you have spent on apps in certain categories - such as social media. Apple wants to ensure that the devices are used more consciously.
- You can also set time limits for apps or schedule a completely screen-free time. This is also useful if you want to control your children's usage behavior.
Tape measure app in iOS 12
- Another useful app is "Tape Measure", which is automatically on your iPhone after the update. The application works with augmented reality.
- In "tape measure" you can use the camera of your iOS device to measure distances, areas and more. You simply aim two points at a time with the camera and the smartphone calculates the distance.
Sort photos by media type
- The fact that the camera offers various functions under iOS is not new. Now, however, you can search for specific shots in the photo app.
- Open the photo app and scroll down a bit. You will then see different types of media such as selfie, slo-mo or time-lapse.
Accurate battery usage statistics
- Under Settings> "Battery" you can now find even more detailed information about which app on your device consumes how much power.
- IOS 12 also shows tips on how to reduce power consumption. For example, if the brightness is set very high or you have not activated an automatic lock.
