Apple MagSafe broken - what to do?

With the MagSafe, Apple uses an innovative technology in which the charging cable is magnetically attached to the laptop. Defects or loose contacts rarely occur here - but the connection is of course not entirely free of them. We show what you can do if you have problems with the MagSafe.
Broken MagSafe connector: It could be because of it
If your MacBook no longer loads when you connect the power adapter, you should first localize the error precisely. There may also be a problem with the laptop.
- If possible, connect a different, compatible power adapter to your MacBook. If this still does not load, the problem is most likely due to the laptop itself. A major repair is necessary here.
- Tip: If you don't have another power supply yourself, you can find help quickly from an Apple store or from an Apple repair service provider.
- First of all, you should also try to thoroughly clean the MagSafe connector and the charging socket from dirt and debris. Use a soft cloth and a toothpick if necessary.
- Also check the cable for damage. If you find that there is a cable break, you should replace the entire power supply. You can also temporarily try to fix the cable with adhesive tape.
- You should also check the gold contact pins in the MagSafe connection: If one of the pins is stuck, you can carefully move it back to the starting position with a toothpick.
Apple power supply and MagSafe defective - suitable replacement
If the MagSafe is still defective, you have to buy a new power supply. You can choose between the - quite expensive - original Apple power supply or a third-party spare part.
- The original Apple power supply costs almost 90 euros and can be ordered directly from the online store.
- It is much cheaper with the power supply of the "iProtect" brand: Here you can get the spare part for just 26 euros - the quality is fine, according to the customer reviews.
- Note: Note the correct wattage and the MagSafe generation (MagSafe 1 or 2).
