Apple Mail: Disable attachment preview
If the preview of attachments in Apple Mail bothers you, you can deactivate them system-wide via the terminal. We'll show you exactly how this works here.
Disable preview of email attachments
- Go to "Programs" and then "Utilities".
- Open "Terminal.app".
- Add the following line: defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
- JPG and PDF files are then only displayed with an icon in newly created emails.
- If you want to restore the system standard, all you have to do is open the terminal and enter the above command. Replace the "yes" with a "no".
You can also have e-mails read out to you under OS X. We will show you how to do this in another practical tip.
