Switch off Apple TV - how it works
Neither Apple TV itself, nor the remote control have a power switch with which you could switch off Apple TV. We'll show you how it works.
1. Switch off the Apple TV via the settings
- Go to the apps overview of your Apple TV.
- Navigate to the "Settings" app (top right) and open it.
- Go all the way down and select the item "Activate hibernation".
2. Switch off the Apple TV using the remote control
To put Apple TV in standby without going through the settings, long press the Play button on the Apple TV remote (see picture).
3. Put Apple TV into standby automatically
You can also use the settings to specify that Apple TV switches itself off after a certain period of time without use:
- Open the "Settings" app.
- Select the top item "General".
- Navigate down to the point "Activate hibernation after" and click on it until the desired time (from "Never" to "10 hours") appears.
Note: Apple TV only sleeps and doesn't turn off completely
- You only put your Apple TV into standby using the procedures described. It is not switched off completely and can be reactivated at any time by pressing any button on the remote control or by an AirPlay signal.
- However, this means that the device constantly consumes electricity. If you want to save electricity, you can only pull the power plug of your Apple TV.
