Setting up Apple TV - a guide
If you have bought an Apple TV, you have to set up the device before using it for the first time. We'll show you how to do it correctly.
Step 1: unpack and connect Apple TV
- The scope of delivery includes the Apple TV, a power cable and the associated remote control. You need to get an HDMI cable separately.
- Remove the film from the Apple TV and connect the device to the power. Then connect the Apple TV to your TV using an HDMI cable.
- Turn on the Apple TV and your TV, you can start with the setup.
Step 2: set up Apple TV
- First you will be asked for the system language. Navigate down with the Apple remote control and select "German" there.
- The Apple TV is now looking for available WLAN networks. Select your network and enter the password. If no WiFi network can be reached, connect the Apple TV to your router using a LAN cable.
- Finally, you will be asked whether you want to send usage statistics anonymously to Apple. This step is harmless and can therefore be answered with a clear conscience with yes or no.
Step 3: get your first experience with the Apple TV
- If you have successfully completed the setup, you will see the usual start screen of the Apple TV. Here you will find the categories Movies, Music, Computers and Settings. Below you can see apps like YouTube or the Photostream.
- The category "Movies" gives you access to all movies and series from the iTunes Store. If you activate iTunes Match on your computer, you will find your songs on the Apple TV in the "Music" category.
- Under the category "Computer" you can access all of your songs that are on your PC. To do this, you need to activate private sharing in iTunes. You do not have to change anything in the "Settings".
- Videos and songs can be transferred to Apple TV via AirPlay and thus played on the TV. It is also possible to mirror the entire iOS device on the television.
