Apple Watch: dim the display - how it works
Whether in the dark cinema or at night in the bedroom: The display of the Apple Watch is very bright if you do not dim it in time. In this practical tip, we show you how you can regulate the display brightness of the smartwatch.
Apple Watch: Dim the display before switching on
The Apple Watch Series 2 offers a new feature that allows you to change the brightness of the smartwatch at any time - without turning on the display. This is particularly useful if you don't want to bother anyone with your smartwatch in a dark room. However, this trick does not work with the 1st generation Apple Watch.
- Before you can adjust the brightness on your Apple Watch yourself, you have to switch off the automatic activation. To do this, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and deactivate the option "Activate: When arm is raised" under "Settings"> "General"> "Activate display".
- Now raise your arm with the Apple Watch, you can slowly increase the display brightness using the crown on the side. So you have full control over the display at all times and can dim it correctly depending on the surroundings.
Dim Apple Watch: Adjust display brightness
Although the above trick is quite practical, it has one weakness: if you press the crown to get to the apps, your display will still be brightly lit. The dimming function is therefore only suitable for displaying the time. If you want to dim the Apple Watch permanently, you have to change the brightness. This also works with the 1st generation Apple Watch.
- To do this, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and switch to "Settings".
- Under "Brightness & Text Size" you can choose between three brightness levels.
- Tap the desired brightness level there to dim the Apple Watch accordingly.
