If you bought an Apple Watch, you have to set it up before using it. We'll show you step by step how to set it up and give you helpful tips for the first few hours and days of use.
Instructions: How to set up your new Apple Watch
You need an iPhone 5 or later to set up and use an Apple Watch. At least the firmware version iOS 8.2 must be installed on the iPhone.
- If you press the round button (digital crown) on the right of the Apple Watch, the smartwatch will start.
- Wait a moment and then select the language "German" from the menu.
- Activate the Bluetooth and WLAN functions on your iPhone and start the Apple Watch app.
- Tap the "Start pairing" button there and hold the Apple Watch in the camera.
- If the Apple Watch has been recognized, tap the "Configure Apple Watch" button below.
- Now indicate on which side you are wearing the Apple Watch and accept the terms of use.
- Log in with your Apple ID and then, if desired, set a code for the Apple Watch.
- In the last step, you can install some apps on your Apple Watch. If you confirm the process, all apps installed on your iPhone will also be installed on the Apple Watch - provided a compatible version is available.
Apple Watch: The most important settings for the start
You can find all the important settings for the smartwatch in the Apple Watch app. If you don't want to worry too much about the configuration, you should at least look in the following categories.
- Checks: If you pull your finger on the Apple Watch from the bottom up, the so-called "Checks" open. These are the most important settings and functions for quick access. You can sort and remove them on iPhone.
- Messages: Initially, all of your messages also end up on the Apple Watch. This can get annoying over time. In the "Messages" category, you can choose which messages you don't want to see on your watch.
- App layout: The arrangement of all apps on your Apple Watch is shown here. If you hold an app with your finger, you can reposition it. However, the watch app always stays in the middle.
