Apple Watch vs Android Wear - watches in comparison
Apple Watch vs Android Wear - the great comparison between the two high-tech watches! Smartwatches are becoming more and more popular - reason enough to compare Apple and Android watches.
Apple Watch: Functional (and comparatively expensive) fun
Apple has launched its smart watch a long time after Android. You can find out below whether the Apple Watch is still a competitor.
- Design: The Apple Watch comes in three editions and two sizes. It has a scratch-resistant glass front, an angular shape and is rounded at the edges. The aluminum frame makes the watch look very elegant.
- Display: The Apple Smartwatch is available in resolutions of 272 x 340 (28 millimeter edition) or 312 x 390 (42 millimeter edition). The diagonal is 1.5 inches for the smaller and 1.65 inches for the larger model.
- Software: Apple has not yet revealed much about the software, but we know that Apple has developed a completely new system with Watch OS. Of course, this should be able to work with iPhones. In contrast to Android, Apple's watches can be used to make cashless payments and check in via NFC, for example in hotel rooms.
- Prices: Apple Watch OS is only available in Apple's watches, so Apple can position its price almost arbitrarily (high). The smartwatch is now priced between $ 349 and $ 1149, and the emerald edition for $ 23, 455 will also be available from April 24, 2015. Those on a smaller budget will probably find what they are looking for on Android watches.
Android Wear: Older than Apple Watch, but not yet mature
With Android Wear, manufacturers such as Sony and Samsung are launching their smartwatches. There have been 7 different smart watches from 5 manufacturers since July 2014.
- Design: The design of the Android watches is very different. From round to square to curved, you can decide what your smartwatch should look like. With many watches, the bracelet can also be replaced. However, the Android watches look a bit too bulky, especially on delicate wrists.
- Display: Almost all watches have a diameter of 1.3 inches and are resolved with 320 x 320 pixels. The manufacturers mainly rely on the sharp and economical OLED displays.
- Software: For the software, the manufacturers rely on Android's optimized watch software Android Wear. With swipe gestures and voice commands, you can control the clocks. Many functions such as NFC are unfortunately not yet fully developed in Android, so we can only count on them in the future.
- Prices: Here the user benefits from the various manufacturers of Android Watches - they constantly try to undercut themselves. For you, this means that Android watches can be bought for as little as EUR 125 and the more manufacturers that participate in the watch business, the cheaper they become.
Conclusion: Apple Watch vs Android Wear
Both products have their advantages: While Apple Watches are only manufactured by Apple and can therefore be improved more efficiently, several manufacturers are involved in Android Wear Smartwatches. This may help to further improve the watches in the future. Due to the varied designs and the price, Android Wear is initially recommended for initial experiments with smartwatches.
